The dates for the fifteenth annual Florida Keys Lionfish Derby & Festival have been announced.
The event, which is sponsored by the Reef Environmental Education Foundation, will take place on August 15-18, 2024.
Teams can participate as either a twosome or foursome and try to collect as many of the invasive species as possible. This year, the derby features over US$6,000 (~€5,497) in cash and prizes. Participants can hunt from sunset to sundown on August 15-16, 2024.
In addition, a social event, “Invaders on Tap, a Lionfish Awareness Celebration,” will take place on Saturday at Florida Keys Brewing Company between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. During the event, REEF members will provide lionfish filleting and dissection sessions and free lionfish ceviche.
