Girls That Scuba Founder Sarah Richard recently teamed up with Jay Clue, founder and manager of Dive Ninja Expeditions in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico for the best Girls That Scuba event in the group’s history — a collaboration that resulted in one of the most rewarding, empowering and inspiring celebrations of women in the scuba diving industry.
On July 28th, more than 40 Girls That Scuba members from all around the world, as far as England, Israel and even Australia came together to enjoy a full day dedicated to women that work in the industry. Dive instructors, photographers, scientists, activists, environmentalists, business women and females who just love to dive were all a part of that day.
The day started off with a fantastic all-women’s dive at Pelican Rock in the bay of Cabo San Lucas. Even the famous Mobula rays joined the fun and gave a breathtaking underwater appearance.

After lunch, six talks from women including GTS founder Sarah Richard, Nakawe founder Regi Domingo and Dr. Frida Lara from Pelagios Kakunjá inspired and motivated the group.
Subjects like shark and whale research, disposable plastics, species conservation, dive business ownership & management, as well as empowerment for women working as divers were discussed and presented to the men and women who joined the event.
After that, the pool opened up for an afternoon break to try out sidemount diving, hang out, laugh and catch some beautiful Cabo sunshine. Mexican BBQ and drinks were served for dinner and the day ended with a raffle full of prizes that raised money for the different non-profit organizations that were presented during the event.
This Girls That Scuba day was by far one of the most inspiring and empowering women’s diving events to date. For more information about Girls That Scuba go to the group’s website or sign up for the women’s-only private Facebook group.
