Merpeople of every experience level, size, ethnicity, sexual orientation and gender gathered this past weekend to attend the fifth annual MerMagicCon in Manassas, Virginia in the suburbs of Washington, DC.
In addition to checking out a whole bunch of vendors on the show floor — including PADI and NAUI — participants could take part in a slew of above-the-water panels like diversity in mermaiding and how to maintain one’s mermaid tail.
Aspiring merfolk also had the chance to attend in-pool sessions on “Intro to Mermaiding” for adults or kids and underwater photoshoots.
There was even a “Merlympics” water challenge course on Saturday for kids and adults, where participants could swim through hoops, collect sunken objects and finish with a 25-yard underwater dash. The top 10 adults would advance to the finals on Sunday where they faced tougher obstacles and a bonus challenge.
