The inquest into the death of an American honeymooner on the Great Barrier Reef resumes today in Townsville in north Queensland.
Tina Watson, 26, died while scuba diving with her new husband Gabe Watson just off Townsville in 2003.
The inquest into her death sat for two weeks in late November and heard from dozens of witnesses.
Medical complications and dive equipment failure were both discounted as causes of death by the investigating police officer at the initial sitting. The solicitor acting on behalf of the woman’s parents, Tom and Cindy Thomas, revealed in court today that Mr Watson had inquired about orientation dives five months earlier and also emailed questions about the company’s dive insurance policies.
More than 20 remaining witnesses are likely to be called in the next two weeks.
The grieving parents of the dead woman, Tom and Cindy Thomas, are expected to return to Australia from the United States to attend the second half of the hearing.
