Dive Industry Young Professionals (DIYP) has officially opened applications for its inaugural mentorship initiative.
The new program aims to establish a dedicated link between veteran dive leaders and emerging talent across the industry.
Passing Knowledge and experience down
The year-long program aims to cultivate long-term career growth and retain promising professionals within the diving industry. The twelve-month curriculum allows seasoned leaders across dive retail, resort management and marine conservation to volunteer their time and help candidates build operational skills, confidence and a clear path forward.
Participants collaborate on goal-setting, skill acquisition and career trajectory mapping, supported by quarterly progress reviews.
During the program, paired partners hold mentoring conversations, supported by quarterly evaluations to measure progress and refine goals.
Building Resilience in the Diving Sector
Candidates interested in participating as either mentors or mentees can now submit their applications through DIYP’s online platform. DIYP will curate matches based on background, specific career objectives, and shared communication preferences.
Alexandra Patterson, marketing executive at DIYP, underscored the organization’s overarching philosophy, commenting:
“We believe mentorship is one of the most powerful ways we can invest in the future of our industry. There are so many incredible people in the dive industry who have learned through years of experience, trial and error, and relationships. At the same time, there are young professionals entering the industry who are trying to figure out where they fit, what opportunities exist, and how to build meaningful careers. We want to help connect those two groups.”
In addition, Patterson highlighted that the project moves far beyond simple networking:
“We don’t want this to be a program where someone simply gets paired with an experienced professional and checks a box. We want to build relationships that have a genuine impact. Our hope is that someone who enters this program as a mentee will eventually become a leader who turns around and gives that same opportunity to someone else.”
