Lake Allatoona Clean-up Effort Conducted By Local SSI Centres

-

A host of Georgia-based Scuba Schools International dive centers have teamed up to conduct the fourth annual underwater cleanup campaign at Lake Allatoona.

The event took place on September 25th, 2021, when over 50 divers from the various operators removed over 200lbs/90kg of trash from the lake.

According to the event organizer Robert Cooling:

“We were pleased to pull out about 200 pounds of trash from just one cove. I think the main target for this cleanup was the tires that were put in for fish habitat years ago and are now leeching chemicals into the water, but every piece of trash in our playground counts.”

The event was a true community spectacle, and with local kayakers helping out, the Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup (GLAC) providing a pontoon to retrieve trash from divers, and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources using its boats to help protect divers.

Dive operators the took part in the event include:

  • Blue Oceans, SSI Training Centers.
  • The Dive Shop and Divers Supply.
  • Big Boy Scuba.
