If you ever wanted a chance to chat with badass freediver Mehgan Heaney-Grier, you’ll get your chance this week.
This coming Friday will be the 20-year anniversary of Heaney-Grier‘s setting the first-ever U.S. freedive record for both men and women in the USA.
In the waters off the Florida Keys in 1996, Heaney-Grier dove to 155 feet/47 meters on a single breath of air.
To celebrate the anniversary, and in preparation for the release of Season Two of her Discovery Channel hit series “Treasure Quest: Snake Island” that premieres November 4, 2016, Heaney-Grier will be streaming live on her Facebook page this Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10pm U.S. Eastern time.
During the live Q&A session, she will be take questions from fans about freediving, her record dives, and the upcoming “Treasure Quest” season.

An original inductee into the Women Divers Hall of Fame, Mehgan grew up in the Florida Keys and was just out of high school and working as a fashion model at the time of her record-setting freedive. Shortly after, she had guest-starring appearances on television shows like the “Late Show with David Letterman” and “Baywatch,” and feature articles in publications such as Life, People and Outside Magazines.
Reflecting on her record, Heaney-Grier says:
“It was all such an exciting time! I was just a kid, but was very dedicated and set out on a mission to push my limits, to really see how far I could go. I learned so much about myself from the whole experience — my strength, determination, and my undeniable passion for the ocean and adventure. It really set the course for my life.”
Mehgan works as the “Treasure Quest” Expedition Team Divemaster and Anthropologist in search of lost Incan gold in the waters of South America.
