The world’s most detailed, 5.5-metre model of the Titanic hasbeen put up for auction online. It is expected to sell for about US$2.5million (Dh9.13m) – almost as much as it cost to build the ill-fatedliner.
Bids of more than US$1m have already been received for the model, thefirst to be built from the original plans drawn up by Harland andWolff, the Belfast-based shipbuilders.
The liner hit an iceberg and sank with more than 1,500 passengers onduring its maiden voyage from Britain to the United States in 1912. The1:48 model is so detailed that even the miniature wooden deck chairsare based on original designs.
It took seven years for Fine ArtModels, a Michigan-based replica company, to research and build themodel, which was completed in 2002. It has been displayed at museumsacross North America.
