Washington, DC – The Washington Times, an influential conservative daily newspaper, has weighed in on a controversial bill (HR 4075) which would defer compliance with the Marine Mammal Protection Act.
The Act called for commercial fisheries to reduce marine mammal casualties to near-zero by April, 2001. Five years after that so-called "Dolphin Deadline", the Administration’s 2004 efforts to press the industry toward compliance are in the crosshairs of HR 4075, which would effectively remove compliance timelines from the books.
