With the Real Spearin’ Retractable Reel Your Line Doesn’t Have to Be a Liability

There was an exciting newcomer on the scene at this year’s Blue Wild Expo in Fort Lauderdale, and had the chance to speak with the man behind it, Andrew Plante. His product is a new twist on an essential piece of spearfishing gear—the gun-mounted reel. The big innovation on the Real Spearin’ reel is the tension spring inside that makes this line completely retractable. The result is safer, tangle-free hunting and much faster reloading time.

The Real Spearin’ reel is geared toward those spearfishers that hunt on scuba with a shorter line. It mounts using a hydrodynamic, kite-shaped mounting plate that doesn’t cause additional drag. Available in two versions, there’s a lighter-tension model with 13 feet (4 m) of line, and one with a heavier-tension spring and 9 feet (2.75 m) of line, depending on your preference. Both retail for $134.99.

The unit comes with comprehensive, easy-to-follow instructions for mounting and caring for the reel, but if you learn better by watching, there’s a detailed instructional video at Andrew tells us there’s a new video coming soon to teach users how to replace the Dyneema line when the time comes to retire the original length.

If you’re not here at the show, click on the link and see if the Real Spearin’ reel is the upgrade you’ve been looking for to take your hunting to the next level.
