Ashley Futral Grabs Her First National Freediving Title

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands — Upon arrival in Grand Cayman for Deja Blue II  newlwed Ashley Futral prolcaimed “I am here to break some national records,” and today she made good on that promise. Ashley successfully executed a picture perfect no-fins dive to 50 meters in 2 minutes and :26 seconds to establish herself as USA’s new national record holder. “Once I grabbed the tag from the plate I knew the dive was going to be good. After that it was simply a battle of keeping my heart rate down long enough to get me back to the surface without too much adrenaline.” Ashley said.

A native of Wilmington, North Caroilna, the 28 year old has been planning to not only capture this national CNF title, but to continue improving upon it and take it even deeper. Training and working in Wilmington as an affiliate instructor for PFI, Ashley and her husband Ren Chapman run freediving classes through Evolve Freediving and are regulars on In-SEA TV. Additionally Ashley is a member of the Dessault team. Starting off married life as a freediving champion is just one of the many goals Ashley has set for herself this year and we look forward to hearing more about her myriad achievements. Stay tuned to DeeperBlue for video of Ashley’s record-setting dive.
