DEMA Show 2012: A New Lens to the Underwater World

-

In January 2013, Graham Casden, Founder and CEO of Ocean Classrooms, will change the way the underwater world is brought and taught to school students.

This new program has three exciting aspects to it – each good by themselves but combine to make a truly innovative educational product.

First, Ocean Classrooms provides educators with an on-line academic program which teaches about the underwater world while also expanding the student’s knowledge of science, technology, engineering and math.  This is not a one or two hour presentation, but a semester long, 90 hour interactive curriculum.

Second, the learning experience is further enhanced through a proprietary system of robotic underwater cameras, known as Blue Eyes, which are current located off Anacapa Island and the British Virgin Islands.  These cameras can be partially controlled by the teacher in the classroom.  (Side note:  The active involvement of students in the future placing of Blue Eyes is another way the program provides hands on tech education)

Lastly, Ocean Classroom has embedded Open Water SCUBA classroom lessons in the curriculum.  As a matter of fact, out of a recent class of 30 students, 28 went on the become certified divers and the end of the program.

Ocean Classrooms: innovatively bringing the ocean to the classroom, and bringing students to the ocean.
