Former AIDA President Found Guilty of Stealing Funds

Reports coming out of Switzerland today confirm that a former Swiss-based AIDA International President has been found guilty of embezzling funds from the International Freediving Organization.

The former president and treasurer admitted guilt stating “I had money worries. I thought I could repay. I am aware that this way of going about it was not ideal. I would like to now put this behind me”.

The sentence agreed by the tribunal is an 18 month suspended jail sentence along with repaying AIDA funds due, estimated by AIDA to be 120,000 Swiss Francs ($135,000 USD / £82,000 GBP).

AIDA International issued a statement this morning stating:

“As reported in the Swiss press this morning, a former AIDA Board member was sentenced in Switzerland for embezzlement of AIDA funds. In addition to sentencing the defendant, the tribunal ordered the defendant to compensate AIDA for the losses.

AIDA looks forward to closing this chapter, and focusing on its mandate of developing the sport of freediving worldwide.”
