Kiwi Freediver Niki Roderick sets National Record

FIT athlete NikiRoderick set a new Constant Weight without Fins national record for New Zealandyesterday, with a dive to 53m/174 feet during the FIT Gulfstream Invitational2008.  Niki is trained by FIT HeadInstructor Martin Stepanek.

The total dive time was 2:30.  According to a press release received by Ms Roderick there was a strongcurrent which made the sink phase and initial half of the ascent a little moredifficult than expected, but overall she enjoyed the dive.

Ms Roderick also reports that the event has been a hugesuccess so far and there have been some fantastic results from many first timecompetitors. 

Roderick now slips into third place on the CNF women’s AIDAWorld Rankings List behind the two top Russian women athletes NataliaMolchanova and Natalia Avseenko,  marking  another notch in World Rankings for New Zealand Freedivers.

USAA team member Jared Schmelzer completed a nice 55m CWTperformance and first time competitor David McGivern did 37m FIM.
