Research has found that noise pollution can be lethal to coral reefs around the world. To combat this scourge of noise pollution, Swedish boat manufacturer Candela Technology has announced the launch of its whisper-quiet P-8 Voyager.
The development of the craft is in response to a lot of research that finds the devastating impact noise pollution from small pleasure crafts can have on the health of reefs. The new P-8 Voyager operates with an electric motor and skims the water on hydrofoils, eliminating the bulk of noise from the boats.
Commenting on the new boat, Candela Technology CEO and Founder Gustav Hasselskog stated:
”Conventional speedboats — such as tourist RIBs — user huge amounts of petrol, and as their hulls displace water, waves are formed that erode shorelines and damage coral reefs and other sensitive ecosystems. Other problems are oil leaks, exhaust emissions, and of course sound pollution. Candela P-8 Voyager addresses these problems, while offering a better experience for passengers.”
