A new documentary film, “Boundary of Creation: A Report on Project FAMOUS,” was released this past week.
The movie is produced by Herman Kitchen for the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, and is a report on Project FAMOUS (French-American Mid-Ocean Undersea Study).
The project, which took place from 1971 to 1974, featured a multinational team of scientists who focused on studying a region of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, which was about 700 km/434 miles west of the Azores.
The project was able to identify the mechanism responsible for creating the median rift valley on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The new film is hosted and narrated by Walter Sullivan, science editor for The New York Times and author of “Continents in Motion.”
