Reef Renewal Foundation Curaçao (RRFC) has announced the release of its 2025 annual report.
Last year, the foundation marked a major expansion and many achievements over the past decade.
During the year, RRFC activities included:
Two new coral nurseries bring the total number of nurseries in the Reef Renewal Foundation Curaçao network to six. The two new ones were:
- Playa Kalki, in partnership with Go West Diving
- Cas Abou, in collaboration with B Diving and Watersports
Greater coral genetic diversity: The foundation announced the introduction of 36 new coral genotypes. These include propagating several corals that have shown high heat tolerance, giving them a better chance of surviving climate change.
Key successes of 2025 include:
- 2 new nurseries installed (Playa Kalki & Cas Abou)
- 6 total nursery locations
- 87 coral nursery trees propagating coral
- 36 genotypes of Acropora branching corals added
- 1,030 scuba tanks used in restoration efforts
- 2,000+ coral fragments outplanted onto Curaçao’s reefs
- 14% increase in revenues year-over-year
- $38,000 raised at the 10th Anniversary “Raise the Reef” event (up from $6,000 in 2024)
Commenting on the year and the expansion, RRFC Manager Tripp Funderburk stated:
“On behalf of Reef Renewal Foundation Curaçao, I am proud to share that 2025 has been a remarkable year of progress and expansion. Together with our dedicated interns, volunteers, partners, and donors, we established new coral nursery locations at Playa Kalki in partnership with Go West Diving and at Cas Abou in collaboration with B Diving and Watersports. These new nurseries bring our total to six active nursery sites across Curaçao.”
