Organizers of the Scuba Show have announced a couple changes to the itinerary of this weekend’s event in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
“First off, unfortunately, after a car accident, John Chatterton has had to pull out of his scheduled talks at the last minute. Kirk Krack, who developed the concept of ‘Technical Freediving,’ has stepped in after his talks at the Long Beach show. He will be talking about DEEP’s ambitious Aquon training program.
“Secondly, a family emergency means that the PSI-PCI courses in Atlantic City will not go ahead. If you have a course booked or need more information, please contact them directly at staff@psicylinders.com.”
Overall, the Atlantic City show runs in the same format as the one in Long Beach last weekend: one ticket gets you everything. Full exhibit floor, all main stage sessions, every workshop, the try dive pool, door prize draws. There are no upsells, no separate bookings for individual sessions.
The crowd will be different, though: Long Beach drew a lot of West Coast and Pacific divers. Atlantic City is East Coast and Mid-Atlantic divers. The same passion for diving, but a different set of faces on the floor.
The Try dive pool will be run by South Jersey Scuba. It will feature “Discover Scuba” sessions for complete beginners (ages 10+), sidemount try dives for experienced divers who want to test that setup and CCR try dives for anyone curious about rebreather diving. First-come, first-served, so put your name down when you arrive. Bring a swimsuit and a towel.
Scuba.Tech will run the ROV Dive Tank Challenge: Pilot a real ROV in a 15ft by 15ft/4.6m by 4.6m tank with an underwater obstacle course and live camera feeds. There will be a timed leaderboard. Additionally, ROV simulator and photogrammetry demos will take place, along with people on hand to talk about careers in marine science, offshore work and underwater robotics.
In the Shark Cage Photo Experience, guests will climb into a shark cage, no wetsuit required. Great fun for families and dive buddies. A crowd-pleaser and a memorable photo from the day.
The VR experience at Atlantic City will put attendees inside the wreck of the Mars shipwreck, a Swedish navy flagship launched in 1563 and sunk in battle in 1564. It was lost on the seabed for more than 400 years before being rediscovered in 2011. The wreck is exceptionally well-preserved. Walk up throughout the day and go early if you want to avoid a queue.
