A53-year-old Nottinghamshire man was diving at the wreck of the cargo shipSomali, off the coast of Seahouses on Sundaywhen he went missing. The alarm wasraised just before Sunday lunchtime, when the owners of dive boat Sovereign 3reported that he had been missing for one-and-a-half hours.
The Maritimeand Coastguard Agency spokeswoman for the agency said: “The man was with adive buddy and he began to surface because he thought he was running out ofair. His buddy went to the surface to raise the alarm and the two were separated.” Four lifeboats and a helicopter began thesearch to no avail.
HumberCoastguard requested the launch of Craster RNLI Lifeboat, Seahouses RNLI AllWeather and Inshore Lifeboats, Boulmer Independent Lifeboat and Rescue 131Helicopter from RAF Boulmer.
Other diveboats in the area also joined the search, which was scaled down during theafternoon. As yet the diver has not been found.
