“A new report by Holiday Which? Magazine has opened up the debate on travel insurance in the latest chapter of Rip Off Britain.
According to the consumer watchdog, British travel operators are charging customers as much as four times the amount independent insurance firms would seek to levy. Some of the biggest names including SunSeekers, Going Places and Thomas Cook has been vilified in the report.
It also highlighted the dangers of pre-packaged free travel insurance offered with some credit card firms.
But it is not all sunshine and brightness for the independents insurers. Which? found a worrying gulf between the cheapest and most expensive.
The Consumers’ Association is warning the public that any travel insurance must provide at least ??2m worth of medical treatment and ??1m for personal liability.”
