The annual Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest at White Star Quarry in Gibsonburg, Ohio has been an outstanding success for another weekend.
The event allowed divers and friends to connect with one another and build lasting friendships.
To take part in the contest, participants were required to bring their dive gear, carving tools and a cleaned pumpkin. After which, they had one dive to descend and create something special using their imagination.
The month of October offers some of the best diving at White Star Quarry. At this time of year, the water temperature is still warm enough for long dives and the visibility in the quarry improves. Couple this with reduced crowds and it makes for the perfect time to get in the water for those last dives before the cold months of winter.
It is also a great time for local shops and instructors to bring people together and have fun. Events like these serve as a great reminder that local diving can be a great activity, even if it lacks some of the glamour of the tropical diving destinations.
