The day was full of surprises as the Mens World Record was broken three times in short order!

Ukranian Oleksandr Bubenchykov dived 289m / 948ft breaking the previous record of 285m / 935ft held by Mateusz Malina.  The record stood for only a few moments as Greek competitor Giorgos Panagiotakis surfaced cleanly at 300m.  To top off the day Malina took a slow and calm dive to surface at 300m as well – meaning that both Panagiotakis and Malina share the new AIDA World Record for Dynamic (DYN) and enter the 300m club!

Panagiotakis took time to speak to DeeperBlue.com after his epic 300m dive:

“Today it was a big day for me! Getting to 300m in Dynamic was my goal from the beginning of this diving season. I came here to break the world record and I did it. I would like to congratulate Matuez Mallina who also broke the world record with the same distance! Finally I want to thank you my family and my coach George Georgas who came here from Athens to support me for this world championship!”

From a competition standpoint Mateusz Malina wins the gold medal as he had announced an intended performance of 255m which means under AIDA rules he takes the medal.  Panagiotakis took silver and Bubenchykov took bronze.

For the women, Polish competitor Magdalena Solich took gold medal with her 232m / 761ft dive. Silver medal went to Julia Kozerska, also from Poland, with 215m / 705ft dive. Anette Ottzen, Denmark, took the third place by diving 210m / 689ft.

A huge end to a spectacular AIDA Pool World Championships in Finland.  The competitors, organizers and volunteers now get to relax with the closing ceremony and party.
