Blue Water World Cup Spearfishing Championship To Take Place June 10-14

Blue Water World Cup to take place this June.

The Blue Water World Cup Spearfishing Championship will be taking place June 10-14 in Palapas Ventana Baja, Mexico.

Registration is US$1,250 (1,179 Euros) per competitor, which includes accommodations, all meals, tournament entry and fishing license.

The event is a blue-water spearfishing tournament started in 2006 by Dennis Haussler. Spearos from all over the world will compete in a four-day format that involves very selective spearing of pelagic species, specifically Wahoo, AmberJack, Dorado, Roosterfish, Marlin and Tuna.

Competitors will be diving in depths varying from 15 feet/4.6 meters to over 100 feet/30 meters. Participants will be divided into teams of two in each boat, but will compete individually for prize money as well as sponsor-donated equipment.

This year’s competition will be handing out $US2,500 (2,359 Euros) in prize money.

According to the organizers:

“The La Paz World Cup is more than just a tournament — it is a world-class event with a purpose. Each year the fish from the event are donated to raise money for scholarships that keep our local kids in school.”
