Check Out These New Underwater Movement Workshops

Christine Ren started her career as an ocean scientist and found along the way that healing the environment also means healing people.

After creating an underwater photography series conveying ocean conservation as a human issue, Ren has teamed up with fellow dancer and freediving instructor Gabriel Forestieri to craft underwater movement retreats with purpose.

Ren and Forestieri are leading workshops this year in Los Angeles, California and Koh Tao, Thailand for freedivers who aren’t afraid to move and dancers who aren’t afraid of water. Ten percent of all profits are donated to local ocean conservation projects.

Attendees will learn how to explore water on its own terms with a meditative, apnea practice that will allow them to connect more deeply to themselves and the ocean. A blend of technical freediving skills, underwater portrait sessions, and dry studio movement practices blend seamlessly into the curriculum for these exploratory workshops.

Pricing for the Koh Tao workshop — scheduled for September 17-21, 2018 — start at US$1,450/~1,179 Euros (Single occupancy) and $1,300/~1,057 Euros (Double occupancy), and $1,000/~813 Euros for the Los Angeles workshop scheduled for June 15-17, 2018.
