The National Association of Underwater Instructors has announced the launch of its Full Face Mask & Underwater Communications Specialty Courses.
The new courses are a partnership between NAUI and the Ocean Reef Group, with the courses primarily focusing on Ocean Reef’s full-face masks.
The courses cover various full-face mask elements, including:
- Fundamentals of underwater voice communication and how the system functions
- Correct setup and operation of communication units when using Ocean Reef full-face masks
- Standard communication procedures, diver etiquette and commonly used terms
- Maintaining team awareness, coordinating tasks, and handling emergency messaging
- Practical dive scenarios illustrating how effective communication enhances safety and overall mission efficiency
The courses cover academic and water-related topics about using Ocean Reef full-face masks.
Key topics covered in the new courses include:
- Proper setup, fitting and adjustment of Ocean Reef full-face masks
- Breathing techniques using an integrated mask and regulator
- Emergency procedures specific to full-face mask diving, including mask removal and regulator switching
- Mask clearing, surface air valve use and controlled ascents
- Dive planning considerations when using a full-face mask
