After the Australian government reopened the country’s borders, which were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Queensland is finally reopening for business.
To further promote the region and encourage the return of divers, both the federal government and the Queensland government will be providing different packages:
- The Queensland government will promote further international flights with a $200 million package.
- The Federal Government is offering a $600 holiday-maker visa fee rebate for any backpacker returning to Australia in the coming months.
Commenting on the new development, Terry Cummings, the president of Dive Queensland, stated:
“All our day boat operators are excited by the number of bookings that are beginning to flow through while ionic Cairns-based liveaboard dive vessels such as Mike Ball Dive Expedition’s ‘Spoil Sport’ and Entrata Travel’s ‘Spirit of Freedom’ are fully operational and visiting the Northern Ribbon Reefs of the GBR and the Coral Sea. Meanwhile, Townsville based Adrenalin Snorkel & Dive are regularly visiting the famous wreck of the Yongala and surrounding Reefs. June heralds the beginning of our whale season with several operators along the coast offering the opportunity to snorkel with Minke whales and their larger cousins. At last the future of diving in Queensland is looking extremely bright again and our operators are ready to welcome and offer high quality service to our guests.”
