Several events took place recently to mark 20 years since the sinking of the Spiegel Grove as an artificial reef.
The History of Diving Museum hosted some of the events, including a dive on the morning of May 15, 2022, to place a memorial plaque on the wreck to celebrate and honor all the men who served aboard her.
On May 17, a multimedia presentation took place to celebrate the ship’s history titled: Celebrating the Spiegel Grove at 20: A Saga Too Strange Even for Hollywood!.
The presentation took place at the auditorium of Key Largo’s Murray Nelson Governmental and Cultural Center.
The commemorative event also included the “Spiegel Grove 20th Anniversary Dive Trip Giveaway.” The competition runs through May 31, 2022, and features a Spiegel Grove dive trip worth up to US$2,500/~€2,362.
