Sunken Armored Cars Are Now Artificial Reef Off Dubai

‘Cuz when you’re vacationing in Dubai, why not go diving and check out an artificial reef made up of armored cars?

That’s actually what the Dubai Police did with 15 of its old, decommissioned vehicles back in 2012. The cars’ frames were thoroughly scrubbed of any pollutants and sunk in a one-nautical-mile area off the coast.

The new reef now plays host to 17 species of fish that previously didn’t inhabit that area.

The Dubai Police Department has since also helped set up a coral nursery off Palm Deira. For more info, check out the story in Gulf News or the video below.
