Turquoise Bay Beach Resort Roatan is offering its guests the opportunity to participate in coral restoration dives and earn a certification to boot.
Bay Islands Reef Restoration has written its own distinctive specialty, the Bay Island Reef Restoration Diver Course. The course and dives allow guests to “give back.”
The course is the work of Tripp Funderburk, the Bay Islands Reef Restoration Manager.
Talking about the course, Funderburk said:
“We provide a weekly “Coral Talk” where we encourage the diving guests to learn more about BIRR and the coral nursery located near Turquoise Bay Resort. After the initial presentation, a great percentage of guests are eager to volunteer by helping us clean the coral tree and plant new colonies back onto the reef.”
So far, over 100 divers have participated in the program and earned the certification.
