“The first international meeting of experts on the possible link between blood clots and air travel has concluded that a link “”probably exists”” but that more research is needed.
The WHO meeting was called after the issue was brought to prominence by a number of recent reports of deaths from blood clots after long air flights.
Prolonged immobility and poor blood circulation can cause clots to form in the legs that may prove fatal if they dislodge and block a vessel in the lungs.
