The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has announced that public comments on the “America the Beautiful” initiative are now open.
From now through December 28th, 2021, the public will be able to contribute commentary and ideas on how to move forward with the “America the Beautiful” initiative, including conserving a minimum of 30% of US lands and waters by 2030.
Before opening up the initiative to public comment, NOAA held five roundtables with stakeholders, including the US fishing community, and two national roundtables that were open to the public where a method to participate in the process was requested.
Commenting on the move NOAA Administrator Rick Spinrad stated:
“NOAA is taking the President’s inclusive, voluntary and locally led conservation goals to the next level. For five decades, NOAA has connected people to places by conserving and restoring special marine, coastal, and Great Lakes areas for the benefit of all Americans. Our experience, in support of this Administration’s efforts, will leave a lasting legacy for the next generation.”
