Belgrade’s serene city is hosting the CMAS 14th World Freediving Indoor Championship, organized by the Underwater Serbian Federation. The seasoned president, Mrs. Bozana Ostojic, has a rich history of successfully hosting global events, including five World Championships, and this year’s event promises to be exceptional.
A Special Year for Aspiring Athletes
This championship holds added significance as it serves as a qualification event for the XII World Games in 2025, set to take place in Chengdu, China. Freedivers will compete in two disciplines, Dynamic No Fins (DNF) and Dynamic with Fins (DYN), striving to secure their spots in this prestigious competition.
Day 1 Highlights: Dynamic No Fins (DNF)
The first day of the championship on July 6th featured the DNF discipline, widely regarded as the most technical and challenging in pool freediving. Athletes perform underwater on a single breath, propelling themselves using only their arms and legs, without the aid of fins. This discipline is often celebrated as the purest form of freediving.
Competitors were categorized into junior, senior, and master divisions, with female athletes competing first in each category, followed by their male counterparts, based on their previous best performances.
