Two staff members at Sun Siyam Diving Maldives have completed their SSI Beach Lifeguard instructor course.
The move is to comply with the new Maldivian government regulations requiring all facilities that offer swimming and watersports to have on-duty lifeguards.
The five-day course certified two SSI Beach Lifeguard instructors, who will be able to pass on their knowledge and certify other lifeguards. In the longer term, the dive operator aims to have lifeguards at sites across the resort locations and establish “Lifeguard on Duty” beach zones.
Commenting on the development, SSI Instructor Trainer and Sun Siyam Diving General Manager Koen Zuurbier said:
“It’s amazing that in a country made of islands and surrounded by water there was never a regulation to have lifeguards on duty until now!”
