New attempt for FREE Constant Weight

Saturday 2nd of November 2002 Andora (Italy) finnish freediver will be attempting a new world record on Unassisted Constant Ballast freediving gategory (verified by F.R.E.E.).??

On this demanding gategory diver dives to the target depth and back to the surface without the help of any propulsion devices. Diver is allowed to wear only the wetsuit, noseclip, goggles/mask and weight belt. This gategory of freediving is considered by many, the most athletic and purest form of freediving.

Topi Lintukangas, 29 years, lives at Espoo Tapiola and works as a user interface dsigner at Suunto?? Design group. As a junior swimmer he competed in the highest level nationally reaching several medals in finnish junior championchips. k??rkikaartiin kilpauinnissa. Between years 1996-1998 Topi Lintukangas competed as a pro in Ironman distance?? triathlon reaching two silver medals nationally and several placings to top twenty at the world cup. (His personal best over the Ironman distance is 8:38’40").

Topi Lintukangas satarted freediving in the winter?? 2001 already in May set the finnish national record on dynamic Apnea (125m). On october 2001 he competed as a part of finnish national team at?? Ibiza freediving team world championchips.

Topi Lintukangas reached his first world record in freediving on this same gategory ot 21st of June 2002 at Bodrum, Turkey, by diving to the depth of –48 meters (F.R.E.E). This record was later that summer broken by jamaican freediver David Lee, he reached the depth of — 51 meters (F.R.E.E.).

In the beginning of the march Topi Lintukangas has decided to take the record back, after long and intensive preparation period. His trainig has included lots of demanding pool and lake workouts, improving his breathing techniques and prepairing mentally to the world record dive.

Project is arranged in co-operation with?? SUUNTO and RED BULL and also locally in Itally put together with: Sport7 Diving Club Circolo e Punto Mare FIAS (Andora), Federazione Italiana Attivit?? Subacquee (FIAS) ja Comune di Andora e Assessorato Sport e Ambiente (Andora community spor federationt).
