PADI Seeks 2022 Sea Hero Nominations

-

PADI is reaching out to the diving community to seek nominations supporting Scuba Diving Magazine and Seiko’s Sea Heroes Award.

During the campaign, which runs from April to November, Scuba Diving Magazine will feature a Sea Hero every month who is dedicated to protecting our oceans. At the end of the year, one of them will be selected as the Sea Hero of the Year.

Every month, a Sea Hero will receive a Seiko Prospex SRPD43 timepiece, and the Sea Hero of the Year winner will receive an additional US$5,000/~£4,077/~€4,802 prize to help with their conservation efforts.

The first Sea Hero nominated is Australian teen Shalise Leesfield, who has a passion for sharks and has dedicated her time to cleaning up her hometown waters by removing marine debris. According to Jeff Mondle, the director of the PADI Media Group:

“PADI is proud to support the Sea Heroes® Program, which showcases our global community of torchbearers who are passionate about creating ocean change…Ms. Leesfield is the perfect example of someone who is turning her passion into direct action for our blue planet. Whether it is through education, outreach, or hands-on initiatives, divers are the front-liners for our ocean’s health and we want to celebrate the diverse ways they are truly making a difference.”

While Takeshi Sakamoto, the president and CEO of Seiko Watch of America, stated:

“We are thrilled for the opportunity to continue honoring the extraordinary work done by those making a difference for oceans, reefs and marine life…Over the years we have worked with PADI to set the global standard for diving watches that support the pioneers of the ocean. With our continued sponsorship of the Scuba Diving magazine Sea Hero Awards since 2017, we are able to further these conservation pioneers, helping them set the standard for ocean protection.”
