US Coast Guard Rescues Stranded Scuba Diving Couple

-

The US Coast Guard recently rescued a couple of scuba divers who had been floating in the ocean for more than 36 hours.

Kim and Nathan Maker, both experienced divers, had been diving off the coast of Texas when bad weather separated them from their dive boat.

While awaiting rescue, the two were stung by jellyfish, Nathan came close to going into a diabetic coma and Kim caught an infection.

A Coast Guard aircraft was making a final pattern before the search efforts would have been shut down when crew members saw the couple signaling S.O.S. with their dive lights.

The aircraft crew vectored the Makers’ location to the Coast Guard Cutter Edgar Culbertson, which picked them up and transported them to Coast Guard Station Freeport.

Aside from dehydration and sunburns, the couple have been recovering nicely.
