With Wimbledon tennis just coming off our TV screens, our attention is taken straight to Deans Blue Hole in the Bahamas where the 10th edition of the elite freediving competition OriginECN Vertical Blue is kicking off today.
Dubbed the “Wimbledon of Freediving” and sponsored this year by OriginECN, the competition sees 46 contenders from 23 different nations as they push the limits of the human spirit & physiology as far as they can go when they dive (without tanks) into one of the deepest blue holes in the world.
As if to prove the superhumans who are competing, we understand there will be no less than 7 World Record attempts during the event. Looking at the day 1 line up we see 12 National Record attempts and Jessea Lu (China) will be the first to attempt a World Record in Free Immersion (FIM).

The competition will be live-streamed by the underwater drone Diveye and broadcast via the Vertical Blue Facebook Page and across social media with the hashtag #VB2018.
Stay tuned to DeeperBlue.com as we bring you coverage from the event.
