The Barbados Free Diving Association is set to launch this week.
According to the man behind the organization, Alex Davis, its main aim will be to represent the interests of divers across the island.
The new organization will launch at the National Aquatic Center in Wildey, St Michael on September 28th, 2018 Tuesday, October 2nd, 2018 (the date got moved due to flooding after the recent Tropical Storm Kirk).
According to Davis, during the inaugural meeting:
“We will be briefing everyone on what we plan to do with the association, where we want to move in the future and what it means for Barbados in the long run.”
Among the publicly stated aims of the organization so far is to host a Caribbean national pool competition. While the date of the event has not been confirmed, it is planned to take place next year.
The new organization will be open to freedivers, spearfishing participants, and snorkeling enthusiasts. Davis confirmed that the first meeting will be a more social affair, stating in Barbados Today:
“We are just going to do a little meet and greet, and there is going to be a little mini-game going, raffle going on with over a thousand dollars in prizes. The breath hold game is going to start at seven o’clock, so once you are there before seven and sign in, you can then take part.”
