First Great White Tagged in Canadian Atlantic Waters

Canadian federal fisheries officials have confirmed that a great white shark was tagged off southwest Nova Scotia last week.

The achievement is the first time that a great white was tagged in the country’s Atlantic waters. The tagging was performed by Heather Bowlby from the shark unit at Halifax’s Bedford Institute of Oceanography.

The tagging will provide information that will aid in understanding great white movement and migration patterns in the area. American organization Ocearch has already tagged some sharks in the Atlantic, including Hilton, who has become a celebrity due to his twitter feed.

You can check out Hilton the shark’s twitter feed here.
