3 seperate explosions have hit the Egyptian resort of Dahab. Blasts occured at 19:15 local time (17:15 GMT) on Monday 24th April, a time when local Egyptians were enjoying a spring break.
At least 23 people, including 3 foreigners, have been killed and 62 injured. Among the 62 wounded there were three Danes, three Britons, two Italians, two Germans, two French people, a South Korean, a Lebanese, a Palestinian, an American, an Israeli and an Australian.
The explosions have been reported to have hit two restaurants and a supermarket in an area that is popular with tourists and local business owners.
Egyptian State television has reported that the explosions seemed to have been caused by remote-controlled bombs, rather than suicide bombers. Egyptian President Mubarak has called the attacks “wicked terrorist act”.
Dahab is a centre for FreeDiving and Scuba activites in Egypt and many of DeeperBlue’s friends are based out there. Our thoughts and prayers go out for everyone’s safety. News is coming in on the forums here.
The bombs follow on from bombs in Taba in 2004 and Sharm el Sheikh in 2005.
