DAN Changes Emergency Medical Phone Number

Divers Alert Network has changed its telephone number for emergency phone calls.

The new number is now 1-919-684-9111.

The 24-hour-a-day emergency hotline receives between 15,000 and 18,000 inquiries per year, with 2,000 to 3,000 of them being actual medical emergencies amd 12,000 to 15,000 being medical information calls or e-mails, according to Dr. Matias Nochetto, Latin America medical coordinator for DAN’s Medical Department.

Nochetto gave a briefing earlier today at the DEMA Show on the hotline titled “Separating Fact from Fiction.”

One of the misconceptions about the DAN hotline is that it is staffed by a phone bank of dozens of call operators, when in fact only six people — all of them either medical doctors or emergency medical technicians — handle all the calls that come in, according to Nochetto.
