Infinity Depth Games IV Starts Today

The climate is warm, the breeze is light and most importantly the seas are calm for the nearly 20 freedivers who are ready to take the plunge into the 4th annual Infinity Depth Games. And the organizers of this Cypriot event could not be happier.

Hosted by Infinity Freediving Cyprus, this depth competition is the culmination of over two years of hard work by an intrepid team, who had to cancel last year’s competition at the last minute due to stormy weather and bad currents.

This year, though, both Neptune and Mother Nature seem to be cooperating nicely just offshore from Larnaca, Cyprus.
Over the course of five days, a total of 18 athletes from nine different countries will get three chances to offer their best freediving performances in the depth disciplines of constant weight (CWT), no-fins (CNF) and free immersion (FIM). There are three national record attempts on tap for day one (via Cyprus, Norway and Brazil) as well as some personal bests for a handful of first-time competitors who have all been mesmerized by the 40m+ visibility of the Mediterranean blue. See the first day’s full start list here below:

Stay tuned to Deeperblue.com for more of the competition’s goings-on and results (complete with more gorgeous underwater photography via Daan Verhoeven and Costas Coustantinou.) And if you are lucky enough to get a spot for next year’s Infinity Depth Games 5, you can look forward to having the deepest safety divers in the world as WR holders Sayuri Kinoshita and Hanako Hirose have already pledged their participation to the IDG safety team.
