New Conservation App Launched

-

A new app harnessing the power of citizen scientists has been launched.

The Ocean Alert App is the work of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management and aims to collate date for sightings of marine megafauna.

The app’s objective is to collect data about various marine species, including whales, sharks, and turtles. The app’s data can then help the BOEM when planning offshore energy and mineral development projects to lessen the impact on marine species.

The app was developed in partnership with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which already has experience with citizen science apps after creating the Whale Alert app. The new app is considered an expansion of the Whale Alert app.

The free app is available from the Apple App Store and Google Play.

You can find out more about the BOEM here.
