Venezuelan FreeDiver Carlos Coste Injured

Breaking News – Updated 09:15 GMT September 15th 2006

Carlos Coste, the current World Champion in the Variable Weight discipline, has been injured whilst attempting a training dive for a No Limits World Record attempt in Sharm-el-Sheikh Egypt. Despite initial fears of serious injury Coste is making a good recovery at a Hyperbaric specialist facility in Germany. Doctors believe Coste is suffering from a Brain Gas Embolism.

According to Gabriela Contreras, Coste’s Girlfriend and Manager, he was attempting 183m training dive and was experiencing disorientation when below 100m.

He was underwater for 5min 02sec and is currently being treated at the Sharm Medical Center which is a local Hyperbaric facility in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt.

Coste spent 3 days at the Medical Center and on Thursday 14th September 2006 was transferred to the German City of Murnau. Before leaving for Germany Coste was reportedly experiencing paralysis on the left side of his body.

He is being examined and treated at the Murnau hospital and further results should hopefully be released soon.
