The bi-annual AIDA Individual Freediving Depth World Championships kicks off today in Roatan. 27 women athletes from 15 countries took to two platforms to battle it out for glory in Free Immersion (FIM).

The ladies showed they were out to make history with strong, clean performances with few blackouts and disqualifications. Protests and judge reviews are yet to happen but we do know that the top three podium places went to:
- GOLD – Alessia Zecchini (Italy) – 88m (New National Record)
- SILVER (JOINT) – Sofía Gómez Uribe (Colombia) – 86m
- SILVER (JOINT) – Jessea Lu (China) – 86m (New National Record)
We also saw strong performances, personal bests and new national records by Estrella Navarro (Mexico) at 74m and Sayuri Kinoshita (Japan) at 85m.
