Australia's first official Freediving Championships

On the weekend of August 17 and 18, Freedive Australia, Dive Forster and OMER will bring you Australia’s first official Freediving Championships!

Come for a weekend of freediving and entertainment, as divers from across the country try out for places on the Australian Freediving Team 2002…

Those successful will go on to represent us at the World Championships in Hawaii. The event will be held in Forster at a cost of $100 including accomodation for Friday and Saturday night, breakfast, and competitor or spectator boat place. An exotic barbecue cruise will be held on Saturday night for those who want to party, along with other surprise presentations and entertainments. Presentations on

  • Fin-to-Form Technology;
  • Freedivers: Neurotic or Erotic?;
  • Apnea and IQ??????????????????????????
  • Monofins: What’s the porpoise?
  • and more…

THE EVENT: The competition will include the disciplines of both Static Apnea (breath-hold time) and Constant Weight (depth with fins). Any potential competitors are of course urged not to train without a full understanding of safety and restrictions or without a competent buddy. If you need a buddy go to the message board of www.freedive.com.au.

PRIZES! There will of course be prizes of Freediving equipment for outstanding competitors, as well as for novelty categories to be decided! A TV crew will also be present to cover the event-the ups and downs, the passion and the politics – and will then be following the team on their journey to Hawaii, diving in stunning locations and with other freediving mammals.

The event will be open to all those who want to come along for the fun, the ride, the fame, to get an idea of what freediving competition is all about, or to seriously try out. Female competitors are especially encouraged, with enthusiasm being more important than experience! Supporters are of course extremely welcome. This event is totally non-profit, any unlikely extras will go towards the team! We would also be interested in hearing from anyone with useful skills and interested in helping out through the event!
