A drowning diver has told reporters how she was saved by a whale that pushed her back to the surface when she suffered cramps during a freedive in an aquarium. Freediver Yang Yun said thought she was going to die when her legs were paralysedby arctic temperatures during a free diving contest in the aquarium at Polar Land, Harbin (north east China).
According to the news report, competitors had to sink to the bottom of anaquarium’s 20ft arctic pool and stay there for as long as possible.
26 year old Yun tried to head to the surface and found her legs were suffering from severe cramps.
“Ibegan to choke and sank even lower and I thought that was it for me – Iwas dead. Until I felt this incredible force under me driving me to thesurface,” she explained.
A Beluga whale in the tank swam towards her during her difficulties and using her sensitive dolphin-like nose appeared to guide the freediver to the surface.
