CMAS Indoor Pool Freediving World Championship Day 3: Branco Petrovic, Heike Schwerdtner Win Gold In Static Apnea

Serbia’s Branko Petrovic and Germany’s Heike Schwerdtner brought home the men’s and women’s gold medals in the Static Apnea discipline on Day 3 of the CMAS Indoor Pool Freediving World Championship in Kuwait.

In the men’s category, Petrovic won the gold with a breath hold of 10:02.81, followed by France’s Laurent de Beaucaron who won the silver medal for his time of 09:27.84. The bronze medal went to Budimit Sobat from Croatia with a time of 09:09.42.

As for the women, Schwerdtner won the gold medal with her 08:36.10 breath hold. The silver medal went to Sylvie Gibson from France for her 07:36.45 performance and her countrywoman Beatrice Rouvier got bronze with 07:30.16.

In the men’s Masters 50-54 age group (no women competed in this category), France’s Arnault Manner earned the gold medal with a 06:27.32 breath. The silver went to Greece’s Aris Ioannidis with 06:19.38, and Austria’s Boris Just brought home the bronze with 05:54.19.

In the men’s Masters 55-59 age category, Poland’s Grzegorz Mucha got first place for his 06:08.71 breath hold. The silver medal went to Marc Verstappen from Belgium who did 05:04.16, and Australia’s Frederic Maire won bronze with a time of 05:03.04.

For the women’s Masters 55-59 age group, France’s Laurence Gueguen got gold with her 06:47.75 breath hold, followed by Birgit Wesemann from Germany who did 05:06.53 and Maie Albader from Kuwait with 04:42.87.

In the Masters 60-64 age group, two athletes from Germany won the gold medals. Ute Weinrich with 04:35.83 in the women’s category and Hans-Jurgen Lenzen with 03:23.79 for the men.

In the male juniors category, the gold medal went to Turkey’s Nida Murathan Bulut with a 04:44.03 performance, Saudi Arabia’s Anas Albalwi won the silver medal with 03:06.60 and Malaysia’s Muhammad Elman Raif Zaid won bronze with 02:24.52.

In the female junior category, Turkey’s Alya Akar won the gold medal for her 04:33.02 breath hold, followed by her countrywoman Toprak Toprak who won the silver medal with 03:18.40.
