In Pictures: What Do Champion Freedivers Look Like in a Freezing Dunking Pool?

Take a bunch of top level Freedivers competing at the recent AIDA Pool World Freediving Championships, stick them in a 4°C (39°F) dunking pool, then add in Underwater Photographer Daan Verhoeven and you get some unique portraits.

The Freedivers look remarkably composed considering the shock of the freezing cold water.

Daan spoke to Peta Pixel recently about the portraits

“I wanted to capture the shock of submerging yourself into water this cold, it’s actually quite good fun and pleasant, but only afterwards. The initial feeling is overwhelmingly… well, shocking!”
