Vertical Blue 2017 Training Starts To Heat Up In The Bahamas

Dean’s Blue Hole on Long Island in the Bahamas is the scene of an annual elite competition for the Freediving world – Suunto Vertical Blue.  Dubbed the “Wimbledon of Freediving” by the NY Times and regularly sees World Records and National Records being smashed by athletes from all over the world.

Whilst this year’s competition starts on 30th April through 10th May – athletes, safety divers, and media have started to arrive and training has begun.

Freediving Photographer Daan Verhoeven has been on hand to capture some epic photos from the last week.

Daan had this to say to DeeperBlue.com:

“It’s still early days but we’re seeing impressive training dives from a lot of athletes; the 2017 edition of Vertical Blue promises to be deep. Very very deep.”
